What is Fair Wear and Tear?

Wear and tear on a vehicle is normal degradation that happens from using the car. This is different from damage, which is caused by an event or series of events, such as a crash, bad stowing of items, or negligent acts.

Where possible, a Small to Medium Area Repair Technology (SMART) repair will be carried out. This is the process of repairing a car using specialised tools, paint and materials on a localised damaged area, avoiding the need to remove or repaint the entire panel of the car. This means that repairs can be carried out in less time, reducing the cost of the repair. These guidelines show repairs that are typically carried out as SMART repairs, but the body shop carrying out the repairs will determine whether a SMART repair is possible after physically seeing the vehicle.

All vehicles need to be returned in a ‘good condition’ as advised to you on the delivery of your vehicle. Any damage that affects the condition of the vehicle will be chargeable following a vehicle inspection.
